It only seems a week ago that Naam 2015 finished, the trade show hosted in California USA saw some exciting product launches including the Pioneer XDJ-RX, Numark NS7 mk3 and Novation Launchpad pro to name just a few. Musikmesse has now finished and the big players have had more announcements on new and innovative products that will tempt us to part with some more of our hard earned cash!
Musikmesse, the annual Music Industry trade show was held in Frankfurt, Germany and gave the manufacturers another chance to show us their new products. Here is a summary of the top products we think will be a success.
Native Instruments – Traktor D2
Do you want the functions of the Traktor S8 but not the full controller? The Traktor D2 gives you that option. Basically one third of the Traktor S8 the Traktor D2 controller gives you a fully portable Traktor controller with the features taken from the S8 including full Hi res colour screens and touch sensitive controls.
Allen & Heath – XONE:43
Something different from A&H, one for the purists, a fully analogue DJ Mixer!! Yes that’s correct, Allen & Heath are keeping it analogue with the XONE:43. Following on from the successful ZONE:23 mixer the XONE:43 offers the very best of analogue audio quality, including the legendary Xone filter, 3 band EQ, crossfader with three curve settings and send/return connections to your FX unit.
Reloop – Beatpad 2
Following up from the original Beatpad, Reloop have updated the controller. Built with Algoriddim’s DJAY 2 software for IPad and Android in mind, it now boasts 8 touch-sensitive pads, colour-coded cue points, slicer function and dedicated filters within the normal EQ strip. The Controller will also support Traktor and Virtual DJ.
Novation Launchkey MK2 -
Novation Launchkeys are the biggest selling keyboard controllers at Digital DJ Music. Novation has now updated the series. The MK2 version of the USB keyboard controllers for Ableton Live will be available in 25, 49 or 61 note size and will include 16 velocity-sensitive RGB pads, 8 knobs, dedicated navigation and control buttons, and software for Mac and PC, including Ableton Live Lite.
All product will be available form Digital DJ Music as soon as they are released..
]]>In each of Jay's sets he hosts a unique style: He keeps fresh, stays different, and works a crowd. He plays a combination of house genres, using vocal samples, clever effects and live remixing. There is never a dull moment during his time on the decks, constantly throwing in surprises, unique tunes, re edits, acapellas and old school throwbacks. Always mixing in key and keeping a true house groove to all of his sets he takes the crowd on a musical journey.
2015 is an exciting year for this Midlands based DJ - He is taking his brand www.projecteventsuk.com over to Ibiza to host a week at Ibiza Rocks Hotel as well as hosting an outdoor summer festival in his hometown - Worcester. With upcoming gigs all over the UK in some of the most established venues 2015 is going to be his year we caught up with Jay to ask him a few quick questions.
5 Quick Questions
1. Tom Middleton - Penrose Steps (This is my favourite track to hear when I am out partying! It does magical things to me that I cannot tell you about)
2. Julio Bashmore - Battle for Middle (I heard this track when I was out once at Gatecrasher in Birmingham in the back room. I was into EDM at the time but this monster track blew my mind and hooked me into bass and tech house - never looked back (Can't stand EDM now).
3. Flashmob - Need in me (play this pretty much every set. It’s stunning)
I'm going to cheat here and name 4 tracks,
4. John Cutler - It's Yours. (A true classic. I started my career playing funky house and this gem will always be my favourite classic)

]]>The ability to browse and load sounds with a push of a button and Komplete’s ability to control and manage everything with one plug-in, using a tag browsing system is a huge plus.
Native Map allows automatic mapping of all key parameters for each instrument to the touch sensitive controller knobs. This makes the work flow that bit better. Playing chords with single keys or mapping the entire keyboard to musical scales, along with the aid of ‘Light Guide’ which shows up key switches and zones in full colour and key colour correspondence all contribute to a healthy work flow, ease of use and also giving performance feedback on scales, chords that light up across the keyboard.
The semi-weighted Fatar keybed with aftertouch delivers expressive and responsive playability, as do the multi-purpose touch strips. The display and layout shows the important details at a glance, with full access to transport control, all allowing you to maintain the creative work flow.
The cheapest combination then is the £429 S25 keyboard and then Komplete 10 for £429 (Komplete Ultimate is now £849).
For me it’s a wonderful piece of kit, expensive maybe, but the NI and Komplete faithful will stand by this and not be deterred by the price tag.
To enable all the Komplete Kontrol funtions and get the best out of the keyboard, you will need to download the free software. Owners of Komplete 9 onwards, will need the free Komplete Kontrol software. Also if you want to use it as a regular MIDI controller with certain other software you will need to download the driver for that software.
For me, Native Instruments have come up with a product that is aesthetically superb and has got the features and capabilities behind it to back it up.

Steve Lawler – House Record
This man will continue to impress me year after year, DJ sets or productions. This release on Hot Creation is a bomb! The old style hardcore break, the vocal stabs throughout and the bassline makes this a winner!

Philip Bader - Julia
The bassline in this reminds me of ‘Bigger Than Prince’ Hot Since 82 remix. A groovy number, with some quirky vocal samples and clean percussion from one of my favourite tech artists.

Leftwing & Kody – Like That
Leftwing & Kody are amongst my favourite producers right now. They seem to hit the nail on the head every time. The whole of this EP on Suara label is class, but this is my pick. Bassline is a monster! Catchy vocal and a driving tempo smashes it!

Kamero – Leave It All Behind
Belter of a track from the ‘Love Not Money’ label. Kamero always offers well produced tracks, this is no exception. A proper ‘roller’ in the true sense of the word, a cracking break and use of vocal makes this a peak time anthem. No wonder Hot Since 82 is smashing this!

This all in one DJ System from Pioneer is aimed at releasing DJ’s from the laptop and pushing the DJ towards the use of Pioneer’s music management software Rekordbox. In addition to the enhanced visual feedback the NS7 iii offers four deck mixing, FX control, needle search via touch strip and a reassuring, near blast proof, build quality. The Numark NS7 iii ships with Serato DJ (full version) and is Serato Noise map ready.
If you have Just purchased an NS7 2 don’t worry, the screens are an individual unit that are attached separately and later on in the year Numark plan to release this separately so you can upgrade you current NS7 2 Controller.
